Specified Illness Claim

During the process of applying for a mortgage in 2019, Lorraine and I discussed Income Protection and its benefits. Unfortunately, upon application, I was rejected for Income Protection (due to my BMI). Lorraine suggested I consider applying for a Specified Illness Policy, which she felt was a really good option for me and would offer financial security in the event that became unwell with an illness covered under the policy. I took Lorraine’s advice and took out the policy in late 2019.
Fast forward to less than 4 years later, in March 2023, I was diagnosed with Endometrial Cancer. This was huge news to process, a radical Hysterectomy followed in July 2023, and our lives forever altered. Lorraine gently encouraged me to make a claim on my Specified Illness Policy, I worried my illness wasn’t ‘bad enough’ as I didn’t need chemo and it was early stage cancer.
Thankfully, my illness was covered, despite its early staging, and I received a significant lump sum payment in October2023. This payout has allowed me to take more time off work to recover from my illness. I am very grateful to Lorraine for suggesting I take out the Specified Illness Policy. It has helped make a difficult time less stressful and given me precious time away from work which I would not have been able to afford otherwise.
